Talking Tech: Want a piece of $725 million Facebook settlement? How to make a claim
View Date:2025-01-11 09:56:25
And just like that, it's Thursday. The weekend is almost here, and pro football is around the corner. It's Brett Molina taking a break from overthinking fantasy football picks to deliver the top tech headlines.
Who wants money? I mean, everyone, honestly. Here's one way many of you can grab some cash: Facebook.
Facebook users based in the U.S. have until Friday (reminder: that's tomorrow) to claim their piece of a $725 million privacy settlement parent company Meta agreed to last year.
The settlement is linked to Facebook's massive Cambridge Analytica scandal in 2018, where the consulting firm gained access to the personal data of 87 million users.
So how do you get your money? Visit the website facebookuserprivacysettlement.com. If you joined Facebook between May 24, 2007, and Dec. 22, 2022, you're eligible to make a claim.
But don't go making grand plans with your newfound cash. The more people who file claims, the less money you will likely receive.

Get a strange email claiming they are from Geek Squad? Don't click on it. Don't even look at it. Hit that Trash button ASAP. It's a scam. The Federal Trade Commission warns scammers are contacting consumers claiming they will be charged hundreds of dollars because their Geek Squad membership will automatically renew. It's false.

To all my video game fans (myself included), we've reached the end of an era. Charles Martinet, the voice of Nintendo legend Mario, is retiring. Martinet has voiced Mario since 1991, going all the way back to the classic Super Mario 64. Here's one more "Mario time" for the road.
That's a wrap. Thanks for reading!
